Climate change impacts and risks are becoming increasingly complex and more difficult to manage. Simultaneously, the world is facing the complex challenges of hunger and multiple forms of malnutrition, where over 30% of the world's population is facing micronutrient deficiency, and 828 million people are undernourished, while 676 million are obese. The Initiative on Climate Action and Nutrition (I-CAN) aims to catalyze, mobilize, connect and advocate for integrated climate and nutrition action.

This event will aim to introduce the I-CAN vision and objectives to Member States, to showcase the ambition of Member States, including practical examples that build upon climate action and nutrition and to discuss effective actions and how to accelerate work across the nexus of climate change and nutrition with non-State actors, Member States, and UN agencies through a panel discussion.

The event is co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and the World Health Organization (WHO).

In-person participation is by invitation only but everyone is welcome to join the event online. Please register here to receive the login details.

Dr Francesco Branca – Director, Department of Nutrition and Food Safety, World Health Organization.
